More pictures of backdrops!

As previously explained, we have made our own backdrops, the reasoning behind this is because we feel it will look more realistic and also in the 'Moves Like Jagger' official video they also used their own backdrops, they didn't use any green screen effect. It would have been easier to use the green screen however, we have watched examples of previous A Level music videos and the green screen didn't look very effective or professional at all. The materials we bought to make our backdrops was large pieces of material usually about 2 metres width so that this made sure they were big enough. In the official video of  'Moves Like Jagger' they only used one backdrop, however we have decided to make a range of backdrops as we have alot of shots involving people dancing in front of the backdrop so this will keep the audience interested in the video.

Props - backdrops

One of our props are various backdrops, where girls can stand and dance in front of, the backdrops we decided we wanted had to be vibrant and representative of the song, artist and genre of music we were doing. We had to make the backdrops, firstly because it would have been too expensive to buy them, but then also by making them, we could make them to look exactly how we wanted. The backdrops we decided to back, were two peace sings, both colourful and wild, and then a british flag and american flag to represent Mick Jagger and then the artist, Maroon 5. Our last flag that we decided to do was a rolling stones flag to also represent Mick Jagger - the pictures below show us making the rolling stones flag.

Cost of Props, Costumes and Locations

As we didn't have many of the props needed we had to go and buy these. The total cost of the costumes and material we bought came to £40.00 - however once we spilt it to £10.00 each it wasn't to much. We still may need to buy a few things such a coloured lipsticks, but these shouldn't cost to much.
Our main problem on cost was the location; we researched many local and far theatres and stages to find somewhere suitable. We had mixed replies as some places said that they wouldn't be able to accommodate our needs and others said yes but at a very high cost. One place asked for over £1000 which was no where near our budget, so although we did want the best location possible we may have to film in the schools drama room. This will still look good but it isn't what we originally planned to do and could been seen as a set back.

Cast - The 'Celebrities'

In a part of our music video we have a very where we are having celebrity impersonators to add to the humour and also to add to the narrative. So therefore, we would need to find outfits for these celebrities, so they are easily recognisable. We first decided on the celebrities;

Britney Spears - For our impersonator we would get them to wear the stereotypical school girl outfit that Britney Spears wore in her music video for 'Hit me baby one more time' This is so that they are recognisable as it is a famous outfit that Britney Spears wore.

Gerri Halliwell - As seen in the picture we will dress the impersonator in an union jack flag dress as this is one of the iconic dresses she wore.

Justin Bieber - Justin Bieber has become very popular over the past two years and he has the stereotypical swept hair look so if we get a character with long hair they can do the 'Justin Bieber' hairstyle.

Lady Gaga - is known for her outrageous outfits, we will be able to portray this well if we make up our own outrageous outfits, and get someone with blonde hair to do the part.

Marilyn Monroe - is an icon, and is a very regonisable face, her stereotypical outfit is the polka dot dress and the tight curls, which we would be able to do.

Michael Jackson - has his own unique style, and many people remember Michael Jackson as having black trousers and white socks and we will be able to put a pair of black sunglasses on the eyes.

Miley Cyrus - is a very famous disney character, we would be able to dress the 'impersonator' in teenage clothes, but also bright colours to represent youth.

The Groups Contribution

As a whole, our group has worked together very efficiently, we have used our time well as we have prepared everything so that we are ready to film as soon as we can. We have worked together on quite a few of the tasks so that we can input all of our ideas together. We all focused on the shot list so that we can make sure we get a variety of shots in to our music video, we also all decided on the idea behind the music video and decided as a group that we wanted barely any narrative and mainly performance. Also, as a group we focused on costumes, this is because we could each come up with different ideas as we each had different views on how to dress our characters so then we can mix all the costumes together. Also, as a group we went out to get as many props as we can and each paid the same amount, this is so that it wouldnt be down to one person to get all the props, and so it worked out fairly. Lastly, once we had finished making our storyboard we filmed our anamatic storyboard together as it took a long time so we thought we can help eachother. Overall, as a group we have worked very well together, and we have used time outside of class aswell so that we can make sure we are fully prepared.

Evie's Contribution

Throughout the whole planning of the music video, I have contributed by inputting my ideas and what I think the idea behind the music video should be. Also I have helped to develop the storyboards and coming up with additional shots so that we do not have to repeat some shots as that will make the music video look unprofessional. I also contributed to the scene breakdown sheets, with writing down the props, the setting, and the shots we needed for each scene. We have 4 scenes throughout our music video so this was simple, and as soon as we divided up where every shot would be located it made everything look simpler and help organise us as we could decide a day on where we could film each scene. I have looked at a range of music videos, both past and present and it has made it clear to me that we have to be well organised and well planned so that we don't end up forgetting to do any shots, and also we want to make sure we include as many music video conventions as we can so that it will look like a professional music video.

Props & Costumes We Need

For our music video we realised we need a variety of props and costumes. For the costumes we decided ‘American 70’s’ look would be best for this as this was Mick Jagger’s uprising time. As this type of clothing isn’t what we would usually opt for we thought we should go to local Vintage shops and see what we could find. The first shop we went into wasn’t a success, although the second had a few hidden treasures. We firstly found a pair of women’s leather trousers with silver studs down the side- we thought our Mick Jagger could wear these. Even though they are women’s we still thought this would work well as Mick Jagger was known for his tight clothing. Secondly we found a gold leather suit – we thought it was quite camp. It also played in our mind that we had seen a famous celebrity  in something like this but we couldn’t quite place our finger on it. However after some research we realised it was none other than Elvis Presley and Perez Hilton. We then discussed what we wanted our Christina Aguilera to wear, in our heads we saw a 70’s inspired red dress, preferably with tassels. Although, in our third shop we found a purple dress with black tassels – it wasn’t what we had first envisioned but it fit perfectly with the look we wanted. We decided that all of our extras can use there own clothes; however we have to approve them first to make sure they fit into our ‘look policy’. Our next task of the day was to find some backdrops for our ‘dance scenes’. We thought big Union Jacks, and peace signs would go well, but we found it a struggle to find these. Instead we thought we could make them from sheets of material and painting what we wanted on them. After visiting a few material shops we found what we was looking for and headed off to make them into proper backdrops.

Contribution to Break Down Sheets

During the break down sheet task my job was to decide where each shot was being filmed, and then to fill out the actual breakdown sheet. This was quite an easy task as we already had a shot list; this meant we could just follow that and add it to the breakdown. I filled out sheets 1, 2 and 4 – these were most of the theatre shots. We decided to abbreviate the shot names as it would save time and space. Sheet 1 shows an insight to what our two main characters will be wearing, where it is going to be filmed and what props we need.

Anamatic Storyboards

We found this hard to do, as it took a lot of effort finding where each exact shot went, and how long each shot could be. It was also quite a tedious task as there were many shots to do within the song, and to cut and edit each shot took a lot of time and effort. However with the anamatic storyboard, it will help us be better prepared when it comes to filming, since now we have a basic idea of what our music video is going to look like, it will also help a lot when it comes to filming the actual video as we know where each shot goes along with the music. Also when it comes to editing the anamatic story board will help with the editing.

Maroon 5

Maroon 5 are the band who sing the song 'Moves Like Jagger' which is the song that we have chosen to make a music video for.
Maroon 5 is an American pop rock band from Los Angeles, California and have been around for many years, starting back in 1994, however they started the band under the name 'Kara's Flowers', up until 2002, when they added a fifth member to their band and decided to change their name to give themselves a new image. The group is made up of five members, Adam Levine (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Jesse Carmichael (keyboards, backing vocals), Mickey Madden (bass guitar). James Valentine (lead guitar, backing vocals), Matt Flynn (drums). They have enjoyed major success over their years with their first Grammy award for best new artist in 2005 and have gold, platinum and triple platinum records all over the world, since then they have won many other awards.
Maroon 5 have five albums, and Moves Like Jagger is taken from their most recent album, 'Hands All Over' (2010) the song features the artist Christina Aguilera and have collaborated with other major artists such as Rihanna.
Lead vocalist believes the band is currently reaching it peak after 17 years of working together say that they will make at least one more album more disbanding.
