CD Digipak

We also needed to make a cd digipak as part of the promotion package for the release of the album as well as the magazine advert. Before we could even begin, it is important to get the dimensions of the cd digipak correct, therefore we googled templates and found one that was easy to use.

This template also gives us colour codes to make the cd digipak as profession as we possibly can. There are several sections on a cd digipak which all work together to make one whole product.

  • The front cover: This usually contains the main image, artist name and song title
  • Inside cover: this usually contains a booklet with all the songs inside and their lyrics. There can be a background image for when the booklet is removed
  • Spine: This is the part of the digipak contains the least effort, as it simply states the artist name, song/album title and record company name, however it is still important as the audience can use the spine the quickly recognise what the cd pack contains.
  • The back cover: This part has the track list which is the most important part, however it also has the record company and production names on it and the barcode in the corner.
  • Inside back cover: this is where the cd is actually placed, however once the cd is removed there isn't a blank space however usually a symbol or image which relates with the band/artist.
CONVENTIONS of a CD digipak:
  • artist/band name
  • song/album name
  • tracklist
  • visual images that relate to the song/album
  • booklet containing information on the songs and the lyrics
  • record label name and logo

For research I found examples of other cd digipaks,

These are all examples of cd digipaks from various artists, the first one is Rihanna's album 'Loud', this has three sections rather than the usual two. However apart from this follows the conventions, it has her name, album name, and images that relate to her and the album.
The second image shows The Script's album, they follow the conventions as they have a picture of the band, their name and the a;bum name. The back also shows a tracklist of all the songs on the album. In the corner in small print there is lots of writing which most likely contains the information regarding the record company and production. There is also a barcode.
The third follows the exact same conventions as the second album, however Kelly Clarkson's album also contains a pull out advertisement leaflet which can be put in certain cd digipaks dependent on what country they are sold to. This is not part of the actual digipak, and when the consumer opens the pack, they are most likely to get rid of the advertisement.
